Construct validity of the 30-second sit-to-stand test in persons with multiple sclerosis
This study examined the performance of persons with multiple sclerosis (MS) when completing the following assessments: 30-second sit-to-stand (30SSTS), Timed 25-foot walk (T25FW), Timed Up and Go (TUG), Six-Minute Walk (6MW), Godin Leisure-Time Exercise Questionnaire (GLTEQ), Patient Determined Disease Steps (PDDS), and 12-item MS Walking Scale (MSWS-12).
Significantly worse performance was seen in individuals with MS on the TUG compared with non-MS healthy controls, but not on the 30SSTS and T25FW. The 30SSTS was positively associated with T25FW, TUG and 6MW scores, negatively associated with PDDS and MSWS-12, and demonstrated no significant association with GLTEQ scores.
Authors concluded that the 30SSTS should be included as a measure of lower extremity function in persons with MS.
