Measuring post-stroke outcomes via text message

  • Following hospital discharge for acute stroke, participants were enrolled into an SMS-text program to obtain post-stroke outcome measures. 91% of participants found the program acceptable and 94% not burdensome. 53% found it helpful.
  • The study found that an SMS program was less expensive than phone follow up in cohorts larger than 181 individuals.
  • The authors concluded that SMS-text messaging is an acceptable and cost-effective tool for that may reduce the resource intensity of post-stroke outcome measurement following hospital discharge.
