Takeaway
There is a higher prevalence of induced delivery, elective cesarean (c-) section and neonates being small for gestational age (SGA), but lower asphyxia rates, among infants born to women with multiple sclerosis (wwMS), versus women in the general population.
Why this matters
Studies examining the risk of pregnancy-related complications and adverse perinatal outcomes in wwMS compared with those in the general population have yielded mixed findings, as such, there is a need for clarification via further research.
Higher rates of SGA, induced delivery and elective c-section amongst wwMS may influence prenatal care of this cohort going forward; however, further study covarying for factors such as smoking, or length/type of therapy use prior to conception is required for further insight.
