The effect of resective temporal lobe epilepsy surgery on cognitive change
In a retrospective cohort study assessing long-term cognitive change in children who underwent resective temporal lobe epilepsy surgery, most children (54–69%) demonstrated no significant cognitive change. Cognitive improvement was observed in a small number (8–15%).
The authors concluded that resective epilepsy surgery in the temporal lobe did not appear to be associated with cognitive decline in children with epilepsy.
